Date Of Birth: April 7, 1923
Date Of Death: August 11, 2012

On August 11, 2012, Annie Smith Sickert went to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born on April 7, 1923 in the town of Barra do Corda, in Maranhao State, Brazil, South America of missionary parents, Perrin and Ana Bastos Smith.

It was through her father’s radio ministry that Annie met and later married her husband, Paulo Sickert. They moved to the city of Belo Horizonte and started their family. At the urging of her brother, Dugal Smith, the family came to the United States on July 4, 1952, and chose to make their home in Indianapolis.

As a missionary’s daughter, she was a woman of strong faith and passed that on to her children. She and her husband had the gift of hospitality and especially enjoyed entertaining other missionaries. She was a charter member of Christ Community Church of Carmel, IN.

Annie was a loving and devoted wife, mother and mother-in-law. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Annie was a homemaker and an accomplished seamstress and both her family and many local customers appreciated her detailed work with alterations.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Paulo Sickert Sr., a son, Oswald Sickert, her parents and five siblings. She is survived by her sons, Paulo (Beti Ann) Sickert, Jr., of Pittsboro, NC; Jayme (Mary Beth) Sickert, of Newnan, GA; Dugal (Susan) Sickert of Libertyville, IL; and daughter, Cecilia (Dennis) Overshiner of Indianapolis. Also a brother, Dugal Smith, of Carmel, IN; sister, Minnie Smith, of Belo Horizonte, Brazil; and brother-in-law, Clifford Vaught, of Indianapolis; as well as 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews both in the US and Brazil.

Her children would like to thank all the kind and wonderful staff of the Assisted Living and Cherished Memories units of Hamilton Trace of Fishers for their loving and compassionate care of their mother these past 10 months of her life.

Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000, designated for any of their ministries to children.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, August 18th, between 10am and noon at Harry W. Moore, 8151 Allisonville Road, with the service to follow at 1pm in the funeral home’s chapel. Interment will be following the service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Indianapolis.

I am the nephew of Annie Smith Sickert and my name is Perrin Smith Neto. I had the privilege to live with Aunt Annie few months in Belo Horizonte, along with Uncle Paul Sickert and cousins Paulo Jr., Jayme and Cecilia. Little Dugal was not born yet,at that time. Although we had little contact, we always knew good news Sickert family in Indianapolis. We love this family too and we have a great admiration for all the Sickert family. Even apart we received support and care of this family over several years
We were able to visit Sickerts Indianapoiis for a couple of times. Aunt Annie was always leader of this blessed family. We are witnesses of how she has always been a virtuous woman, raising children and husband with, calmness, patience and love. Through her testimony we learned that serving the Lord is the best lifestyle choice. She put her early faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Aunt Annie never faltered in the face of difficulties and always was at the forefront of family life. Once when we visited them there in Indianapolis, we were together at Uncle Dugal and Aunt Pauline home at lake, andUncle Paulo Sickert was driving his car in reality was Aunt Annie who was guiding in traffic, she could always giving guidelines for Uncle Paul so that he could well reach the destination. Also in her home, she was the engine of the family.
We have the most beautiful memories of Aunt Annie. When I phoned her from Brazil Aunt Annie always ordered me to stop calling because the connections would be very expensive.. She was always worring about our safety and praying always for her family in Brazil.

Another thing, always on my birthday she never forget, and sent me a card with $ 20 gift, both for me and my two brothers and my mother, who was his sister, Amy Smith. The Smith family here in Brazil has always been blessed and it was through this family Sickert we came to live in Belo Horizonte, where today her sister Minnie Smith.
When I received news about her death, I went to talk to Minnie ,her sister that lives here in Brazil. She cried a lot ,she was sad but at the same time happy to know that she is now in the arms of our Father in Heaven where we will soon find her again. God created Aunt Annie, now God took her into his arms. Praised and Exalted be the name of our God. Hallelujah

We were so very sorry to hear of Annie’s passing as she was a dear lady and friend to all. We knew her at Christ Community Church and always enjoyed visiting with her when we provided rides to and from church in the mid 90’s. She was an inspiration to our daughter Sarah, who went to Brazil in 1994 as a missionary teacher to Luke Huber’s children in Santarem, with the PAZ Project Amazon organization. Annie invited her to speak Portugese with her and at least one time had Sarah over for tea. This was a fun time for Sarah to get to know Annie and Brazil better.
Annie’s gentle, enthusiastic and loving spirit will be missed by all.
Our sympathy to each one of you.
    Love,
    Ann and Jeb Gaither
